hi got given this laptop, the battery was dead so i bought a charger of ebay which came today , when i plugged it in the battery led on the front started double blinking showing the battery was charging but when i pressed the power button it flashed for a second then went off, when i hold the power button down it flashes brightly for a second then flashes weakly every second also in time with the flashes there is a light clicking sound from somewhere inside the laptop.
the battery is now charged up so the double blinking has stopped, the battery light flashes when the power button is pressed and flashes brightly then weakly every second when the power button is held exactly the same as the power button.
    nothing else responds at all.
i have been online all day searching for an answer and have tried all combinations of powering up, holding power down for 30 seconds with all power sources removed (except cmos battery) re-seating ram etc.
i was wondering if anyone has any ideas before i start taking it to bits and checking things.

I don't know if this would do anything, but try taking the battery out, plug in the computer and try turning it on this way.

Are there any beeps from the motherboard when you attempt to power on the laptop? It's not even getting to POST so sound like it might be a fatal problem I'm afraid!

nothing, no beeps or anything, its quite a nice laptop, very expensive when new 4 years ago and i can get a working motherboard for 89 pounds of ebay which i might do if i can be sure it would fix this ,if not then well im 8 pounds down on the charger with a laptop to strip and sell for parts.
its the clicking noise , its too quiet to be the hd ticking over and its perfectly regular in time with the led's and power button flashing, the power is getting to the battery to charge which means the power is going through the MB to the battery but its not firing up to bios. its almost like something is switching off inside, anyway im going to have a look tonight at the insides and check cmos battery as some posts suggest this as a reason for dead vaio's
