After reinstalling windows 7 64 bit pro, all that is currently available in the Sony control center is the system information and network connection setting.
I need the other function especially the back-light keyboard to enable keyboard back light setting.
I've tried downloading the Sony shared library and vaio control center app numerous of times as well as the drivers on the European support site but to no success.
    Here:

I'm about to throw this unit at the wall if I can't solve this matter today. I'm so frustrated cos I've install the app and when I try updating it, it says OS not compatibly so something like that.
I really need to the keyboard back-light to work.

I've already tried to install other 3rd party and even other titles in the Windows Mobility Center but to no success. Serious how hard is it to get this working.

Essentially, what you are doing (or trying to do) is a clean install. The drivers, especially the Sony-specific drivers, HAVE to be installed in a specific order. Also, if you have the internet connection enabled and active before you have installed these old drivers, Windows Update might have installed generic drivers for some of these devices which it (incorrectly) thinks are better. Now when you try to install the Sony drivers, those installers are unable to overwrite the newer (incorrect) drivers installed by Windows Update.

Look for the 'clean install' threads for the VPCZ1. We have threads for W7, W8, W8.1, W10. The procedure is more or less the same. Some items have to be installed in admin mode, compatibility mode or both. Some of the latest drivers on the Sony website have to be installed on top of the older drivers that were originally shipped, that means AFTER installing the even older original drivers, you install the updated drivers.

All this is carefully and painstakingly explained in the clean install guides. Pick a guide for any OS - the procedure is astonishingly similiar - I don't know why we bother making new guides.

Look at the guide for W10 here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/vpcz1-bios-hack-windows-10-clean-install.779677/
Compare it with the older guides for W7 and W8 - there is very little change. You can follow it almost blindly for W7 as is, although W7 has fewer drivers built in, so these will need installation too, like network and webcam drivers.

If you don't have the BIOS HACK, you will need to install Andrew08's modded driver, and then ensure that Windows Update doesn't install something it thinks is better. W7's WU is evolving to include some of W10's changes, so be alert. People are running W10 on Z1s even WITHOUT the BIOS HACK, so it is surprising that you are facing so much difficulty with W7.

Everything you need is on this forum. Keep at it. If you have to throw it, perhaps you could throw it in my direction.

I see. I did install all the drivers, utilities and app updates in the same order however that was after allowing allowing the Intel updated to automatically search for updates. I wish I know about this before hand *sigh*
So is there any way to add back the missing setting within the vaio centre without doing a clean install cos I came to a lot of trouble just to get the fn and dynamic hybrid switch working. All I need is the back-lit keyboard to work and it doesn't have to be within the vaio center, any 3rd party tool will be fine
