I think you can find it in the bios (press f9 when you see the vaio logo after boot)
Or in Vaio Control Center in Control Panel

F10, not F9 to go to bios.
If you can buy from eBay, search for vgn-z keyboard.

    I don't think so.
Many keyboards in different models look the same layout and size, but the cable shapes are different.

If you can get by with only a keyboard - which you should be able to get for around $125 - it may well be worth the investment, because in many ways even the VGNZ was a very classy, well made 13" with a great screen. But I think you're right that if you also need a screen you could get a new or refurb current day model without the panache of the Z (or even of a Sony!) for around $500, close to what the self-refurbed Z would cost you.. An alternative may be to look for a good eBay deal on a well-preserved VGNZ or VPC-Z1 with no need to replace any pars for $500-$600 and you would be hard pressed to beat the performance and light weight of those models with even a current-day $1,000 Ultrabook, which would lack many of the ports and performance upgrades available at a low cost - eg, got to 8GB RAM for $35, put a second, 240GB SSD in the DVD bay for $125 - and the Z's were so well made that you could end up with a Z with a new 2-3 year lease on life for, say, $650 and needing nothing more than a pile of work,
