Glad to hear a success story. My (UK version) downgrade disc also worked fine. Hope you enjoy XP SP3 on your Z as much as I do! ;)

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a Z550 off Amazon.com that's supposed to include the downgrade disc.

Will the downgrade disc overwrite Vista, or do you have the option to dual-boot? Also, does the downgrade disc contain all the usual preloaded bloatware?

    Thanks!

You won't be able to dual-boot unless you have your own XP (or Vista) disc and license. The downgrade option is just that - Vista Business licenses include the ability to swap to XP, not install it side-by-side.

Not sure about the US downgrade disc re: bloatware, but my (EU) XP downgrade disc was basically a clean install - no bloatware at all. I installed most if not all of the Sony utilities afterwards, as they seemed to offer useful functions.

Don't have Z but I downgrade my TZ to SP3. Everything runs smoother and longer battery life.

I think the VAIO software for Vista is really bad. Don't get as much optimization as you do on XP.
