Hey everyone. I'm looking on sonystyle.com and I'm thinking about buying a FE series laptop. And no where on the website, it says that its 5400 or 7200 and I hope not 4200. So what are the hds' speed?
Ohh and another thing, what kind of ram does the FE support? DDR2-622? Is that one, cuz if that is I might buy a separate stick from newegg or something.

If I'm not wrong, they are all 5400rpm HDD except the 200GB one, which is 4200rpm.
-
Sony is also using 160gig hard drives that run @ 4200rpm. The FE can use 667mhz ram.
-
So are any of the sony hard drives 7200 for the FE?
-
Sony does not offer 7200rpm HDDs for many of their laptop lines (including the FE series)...
-
Does any laptop maker offer 7200 rpm? Lenovo have 7200 rpm hdd on their laptop?
I know the super crazy ones like voooodooo, alienware offer 7200. -
Dell do offer 7200rpm HDD...
-
I think you may be better off choosing the cheapest available hard drive and then replacing it yourself with a fast 7200 rpm one. I do wish these big laptop makers could offer us barebone configs.
-
4200 rpm for 200GB and 160GB
5400 rpm for 120GB, 100GB and 80GB
Full detail of specification is in this link: http://www.sonystyle.com/intershopr...ents/specifications/VGNFE890CTO_SpecSheet.pdf -
Does anyone know the model and manufacture of the 160 GB HD on the SZ Series(480) notebook? I would like to get the new Perpendicular recording technology since they don't offer the 7200 RPM drives and these are said to perform almost as fast.

SZ 160GB is 5400 rpm
-
I know it is a 5400 RPM. I was hoping someone could tell me the actual manufacture and model number of the drive, as Sony doesn't provide that information. I'm trying to find out if Sony is using the new Perpendicular storage method that is said to make a 5400 almost as fast as a 7200 RPM drive. The Seagate 5400.3 and a Hitachi 5k150(?) use this technology.

I don't believe that Perpendicular HDDs will bring you any speed gain. It will only bring you greater capacity and that's about it.

I had read the article at this link: http://www.laptoplogic.com/reviews/detail.php?id=145&part=full
and it seems to suggest some benefit to the tighter storage density in terms of read and write speeds. I thought it was logical since the armiture doesn't have to travel as far. -
sony's hard drives 5400 or 7200?
