Recommend you get Portable One's bloatware removal DVD's for about under $25. Will make the job easier for you. I purchased mine from them and it's coming to me with no junk whatsoever. 780 can do 64bit, but I'm sticking with 32bit until its more mainstream. Contact Ivan at [email protected]. He will also recommend you hold off from getting 64bit OS.

I want to do the same with my SZ750 but Sony hasn't posted Vista drivers for the 700 series yet.If you are going to install a retail copy, make recovery DVD's first and you may be able to load drivers from it.I'm going to try that shortly and will report back.

It had a easy way to do that by use the recovery build-in SZ7xx, u can stop the recovery process when it appear "Copying files to the C drive” by hit Ctrl + Shift + esc and end process " Recovery setup" . Restart, u have the Windows Vista Business clean install with all driver and utility of Vaio and no trial software any more. Use the Recovery disc to install any program if u want !
By this way I have the Vista only 12G on hdd and it work so smooth.

that sounds nice, but can you be more specific? I am the person who never used recovery disc. How can I create that or is it something I need to buy it off internet?

Also I am not certain what "Ctrl + Shift + esc" will do

by the way, I have Home Premium..

I believe there's driver for vista

    Hello,

Regarding the Ram, go to Crucial.com and put your model in and check the 4 gb kit(2-2 gb)for $150...The Penryn processor is supposed to run the faster memory.I'm checking this out myself for my Sz750.

Restart and hit F10 at logo Vaio, select Sony recovery center and then recovery C only, waiting when the display appear "Copying files to the C drive...” then hit "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" ( this is Ctrl+Alt+Del on Vista ) to run Process manager, now find the application " Recovery setup " and stopt it. Restart PC to complete your recovery . By this way u will have the Vista clean install with all Vaio driver and Utility but no unwant Trial ware. All the process will take only about 1 hour and a smooth Vista on your system, trust me!

Hmm. There was another thread that had some great details on the 64bit install. I think they managed to find all the drivers except for the camera.

As for memory I'd absolutely recommend the Kingston (low latency) DDR kit (KHX5300S2LLK2/4G). There was a noticeable performance boost in 3DMark (integrated and dedicated chipsets) over the stock RAM. It was about $110USD last time I checked but you may be able to find it cheaper. Try PriceWatch or similar sites. Also - don't be fooled by some retailers into buying the more expensive 800Mhz memory. While it will work it only runs at 667Mhz. (Blame the Express chipset for that, not Sony.)
