    hi
i want to buy an additional ac adapter for my sz (as mine is connected to the docking station..)

of course i can buy the one that came with the sz (the ac19v10), but i was wondering if there exists a smaller ac adapter (you have to admit it is pretty big and heavy...)

so, does someone knows an alternative?

    thanks in advance :)

I really do not know how much smaller it is, but the iGo everywhere 130 notebook power adapter with the S12 tip will run you about $130. There must be cheaper somewhere. If you travel a lot with your computer, be sure to get an aircraft plugin as well.

The iGo is not particularly small, because it was designed to output a range of voltages, so make sure you don't set yourself up for disappointment. Then again, it does have a three-prong plug, plus you can get an airplane adapter.

The kensington adaptor is lighter and smaller and you can also use it on the plane.

Look into the Kensington Slim 120W AC/DC adapter (model #33197). You can get this for under 40$ new on eBay new, and then either the kit comes with the tip(s) you need, or you spend another 10$ to get the right tip.

PLS19S is just 200g and its size is less than half of the Sony one. It is not available in the U.S. market. You can order one on via proxy site from Japan.

Most of these adaptors are voltage sensing. I'm sure the Kensington can do 120W@110-240v

The PLS19S is only 75W and the computer needs 110W.

Well, actually, Core Duo SZ consumes 95W, according to Sony, Japan. Only Core Duo 2 models need 110W. I know the SZ Spec of Core Duo models says it needs 110W. Then why?

This is for Core Duo 2 upgrade. SZ 3** and SZ 2** share the same motherboard design. The difference is only CPU. Except for the CPU, everything is identical. If you use Core Duo CPU in your SZ, 95W is enough. If you upgrade the CPU to Core Duo 2, then 110W power is needed.

In addition, without battery, Core Duo SZ consumes 65W only, while Core duo 2 SZ consumes 75W.

So, PLS19S is a perfect replacement for SZ adapters. If you use this one, it will just take longer to recharge battery. That's all.

In Japan, mobility is the top priority. No replacement adapter for Core Duo SZ is 110W. This is why all replacement adapters for Notebooks in Japan are less bulky and very light. It is because they use less power.

If you know some japanese, try google.co.jp. You will find a lot of infos about Vaio.

Also, check some pics of a very light and small replacement adapter for SZ at http://geroppy.homeip.net/ryo/sz/szadapter.html

The IGO will accept 240v on the input side. I have the 130, and once they replaced the output cord, everything works great. I love it.

Don't use Targus, they do not have anything for the SZ currently.
I wanted to use Targus as well but I was told by Targus they have nothing as of yet for the SZ models. Vince from Technical service told me he would email when available. I bought a Kensington as they have the 120 AC/DC or AC with Sony adapter #27 for the SZ.

I use the universal adapter from kensington 120V AC/DC version with my sz360. It is really flat which means it fits better in a laptop case. It already comes with the N4 smarttip which is a Sony tip. Thought according to the kensington website you should use another tip, the N4 that comes with it works just fine on the SZ360.

I got mine a week ago at www.geeks.com for a price of $22 shipped. It is refurbished however. There is a coupon code for $2 shipping "flatrate"

Does the Kensington 120v ac/dc version fix the issue with the tingle on the left hand? I do feel a bit with the standard SZ360 power supply!

Depending on the model, you can only use the three tips, N4,N15 or the N27.
The SZ requires the N27 tip. I am not sure what the harm would be in using the other tip, but the tips do regulate the proper watts for the laptop, to be safe I would get the correct tip, it only cost $9.99. Better safe then sorry.

Can't help you out as I do not have this problem of tingle with the stock Sony or the Kensington adapter.

    20 dollar is very cheap.

I found the similar one on BestBuy for 13x - 150 CDN.

Makes me want to buy one so I can always keep one in my bag for school.

...yes... I think you may have found the adapter we've all been looking for.
2oz compared to 16 for OEM... yeah, methinks I'm on this like a monkey on a cupcake :)

    ...hold the phone!

Some sites are showing the same kensington has previously discussed, that is 8oz, and not 2oz. Can you link to the beast that you're talking about?...
...and that it does over 90W.

The only problem I see is that the E-bay picture shows the outlet chord. And it shows a 2-prong with no ground.

Other than that the website shows its compatible with the sony.
