Sorry for this post, but I know every time I use standy this will bother me.

PLEASE Test your standby by for 1 or 2hrs tonight. I want to know what % your battery drops by. Mine is 3-5% per hour and I want to know if that sounds right.
If not, I may return it once again and get another.

Will do as soon as I get home. Allthough I never use stand-by.

Try using "Hibernate" instead, as it actually shuts down the system, but coming out of it is much much faster than powering on

I do not believe I lose any battery in hibernate. I put it to hibernate before I went to bed and in the morning it still had same battery life. As for standby I will have to test that out. Will post when I have results.

Did anybody try "standby"? I do not have much more to return the laptop.

So far with mine, I can confirm, as long as my unit is working correctly (not doing that 30% drop in battery in HIBERNATION in 3 hours deal) that:

1)Hibernation for 7 hours will drop from 100% to 98-97%. And if it's in "speed" mode, not doing anything, 3mins later it'll be like 94%.

2)Standby for 7 hours will drop form 100% to somewhere around 70%. And if it's in "speed" mode, not doing anything, 3mins later it'll be like 67%.

3)Just off for 9 hours will be from 100% to wtf?! 93%! I'll try this again tonight. Thats wrong. Thats worse than hibernation.

I'll charge it to 100% and I'll shut down, then unplug it. I'll let you know what its like in the morning.

Oh and Sony's explanation of resetting BIOS and reloading OS is BS. I can't keep doing that everytime.

Its like a watched pot, I just had to check the battery. :) After 3 hours off the charger, I started it up. 1-2% battery loss, but that could be due to normal drain of starting up teh computer. I'll leave it off till I wake up 7 hours from now.

Yup. from OFF@100% to 95% 7 hours later. battery is draining even while the unit is off or it takes 5% to just turn the unit on.

If this bothers you so much (and you aparently loathe using Hibernate instead of standby), why don't you just return it? Is that an option for you? I hope they don't try to hit you with restocking fees... (OUCH!!!)

Thats the whole reason for trying to see if others are having this problem. Compusa will test the heck out of this unit before swapping. Normally they wont swap same day. So that means downtime. Also, that means ALL the stuff I put on this will need to be wiped and on a new one(if they still have any in stock) will need to be put back on. Thats another few hours of work.

Not to mention, theres a possibility that the new one could have dead pixels on the screen and compusa doesnt allow returns for things like that. So it'll be a big pain if I really do need to return it.

If you really want to make sure that hibinate doesn't drink juice then remove the battery after its gone into hibinate because hibinate does is dump the RAM/ system state etc to disc and turn it the computer off. WHen you power it on it boots of the MBR as usual, and then reads the image back into memory and carries on. Beware of my over simplfied explanation of hibinate! Hibinate really should not be using any power.

True. But should I be needing to do that? All I'm trying to do is if check if its normal with all the sz users here, or if it's not normal. And I really should force the swap.

Sorry, I know it seems like I'm making a big deal for something that one would hardly use.

Here's another way to look at it. I got 2hrs 35mins to watch a movie on a FULL charge. If I pack my unit away a day before, in an OFF state (see previous reading on battery drain while off) my battery could be as low at 92% by the time I get on the plane, and start the movie it COULD be as low as 90%. Add time into that. That's 10% gone. 10% of 235mins is now 212min. With movies nowdays lasting 2:15+ (star wars/harry potter/king kong) now you can't watch it.

Now I could just buy an extended battery, and I'm willing to do so as I did that for my s360, but am I buying it to get longer time or correcting a defect in the laptop. If it's the latter, then I just spent another $240+ to fix Sony's issue.

thanks! I'm pretty sure your findings should be like mine. by the time you turn it on, it should've gon down about 3-4%.

I had two people say that's normal.

neilk2350- Sorry, I dont have the ext battery nor does anybody store have it near me. Btw, I did try the old ext battery. It showed about an extra 30-40mins of use. I didn't do any actual use with the battery tho. Just what it said when I stuck it in.
