Hello everyone,
The cingular antenna which is on this Sony is badly located in my opinion-- it's on the right side of the machine, and I am forever flicking it accidentally as my hand travels between mouse and keyboard. I have no intention of actually signing up for the Cingular WWAN service-- is there any reason why I can't just remove the antenna by pulling it out of the machine? (Actually, in the store I pulled it out and there didn't seem to be any wires attached to the inside)
I suppose I could just angle it backwards when I work, but I think I'm just annoyed that the antenna is there, marring the otherwise clean and efficient lines of this machine, and always in my way. I don't know why they couldn't have made this an internal antenna built into the monitor somehow.

The bodywork of the Vaio SZ series is weak.If you ask me bear with it
.The Wi-Fi always needs some antenna,if you disconnect it the connectivity will be gone for sure (some laptops have the anthenna built behind the LCD screen but the all have it)
And I think that angle-ing it backwards will also damage it.
Don't void your warranty for nothing... -
Do what my friend did with her SZ:
she removed the antenna.
she had to send in the SZ for a quick upgrade from Sony so
she put the antenna back inside.
there were no problems with her warranty. -
The following thread will answer your question:

There's a pic of the unplugged WWAN antenna as well. -
Hallo!
I have the same problem.
Anyway... Before reading your post I was believing that antenna was for WLAN connection!!!! I always put it in a vertical position, believing it could better receive the wi-fi signal!
I hope there's some way to remove the antenna.
I'm in Italy, I think in my country nobody knows what WWAN service is.
I tried to remove the antenna carefully by myself, but I think if i continue I'll break it.
bye. -
Excellent-- thank you for the advice. I just pulled out the antenna and will leave it in the drawer for now. The hole it leaves is pretty deep (about 1/4") but it doesn't seem like that big a deal to leave it uncovered. I can see the metal piece inside though. Although I am pretty sure there's a 0% chance of me ever using the wwan service, so even if the metal piece gets dirty inside, it probably won't really matter.
Just out of curiosity, can you buy little metal caps for it like the one on the other side of the SZ? -
I'm trying to pull out my antenna, but even though I'm pulling very strong, (not so strong to pull out it definitely) antenna doesn't get out. I fear for breaking it... Is it possible to view some official guide to do this?
thanks. -

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately there are no pictures and not enough description for me to tell what part that is. I am not that bothered though, really-- I'll just leave the hole there. Heck-- my old Dell had all kinds of open ports on the back with bare metal, and they never got dirty or malfunctioned. And since I'm not likely to ever use the Cingular WWAN anyway, I'll just leave it as is. I guess I was just being a little anal.
sz-330p: Can you remove the antenna?
