So before i order the sz110, I just wanna know very quickly if XP pro is the only difference between 110 and 120.
Is XPpro worth the $50?
-
I'm pretty sure that IS the only difference.
If you have a choice, I would say unless there is a component in XP that you KNOW you need, that is not in Home, its not worth it. Your overall computing experience will be nearly identical. There a few very minor differences that I couldn't even point out with standing them side by side and comparing. The guts are the same. -
GREAT! I just ordered the sz110. I didnt wanna get sucked in the incremental upgrades ( i have to stop doing that especially when my original plan was to buy a $1000 laptop).
I ordered it at amazon which is $100 less plus $150 rebate. should get it in 2days. I cant imagine paying $250+ tax when bought locally. Awesome im excited w my first laptop.
I tried the Sz110 already and the keyboard is fine for a first timer. Better than the 710m which is too small.
I wonder if i can purchase an extended Ebatts.com battery when its available as is it safe?
ANY bluetooth mouse recomendationt hats compatible w the sz? -
By the way i also tried call of duty 2 on the SZ and it can handle it with a little tweaking on the display settings.
no Antialiasing, 800x600 the most (640x480 if you can deal w it), normal settings on texture. -
Actually, about the only stuff you'll give up with XP Home is some of the server functionality you get with full XP Pro. OTOH, you also gain some nice features, like fast user switching that isn't as easy to access in XP Pro.
-
Only thing I'd miss in XP home is Remote Desktop, but there are alternatives. Remote Desktop just happens to be particularly efficient.

???
Fast user switching works like a dream on my 120.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
like everyone said, don't get it if you don't need it. I have a domain and an exchange server at home, so I have to have Pro (that server functionality listed above). If you don't KNOW you need it, you probably don't.
-
Wait a sec though... does XP Home have multiprocessor support? MS says not.
-
yes i dont need those server functionality and remote desktop. ther sz120 is out of stock so sz110 was the only choice anyway.
im just looking for a nice sleeve now..probably go w the lance armstrong case.'
would a wired mouse draw less power than a BT one? if not by much i will just get the BT for convenience -
Speckled Jim good question... it would suck if it didnt. i would guess that it supports it ...

Seems from a little web searching that Home supports multiple cores on a single processor, but not multiple processors. It didn't originally - I think this was added in SP2.

I want to know is it possible to upgrade windows XP home in SZ-110 to XP pro by use SZ-120 DVD recover set? Anyone tried? Thanks

the sz110 has no TPM module.

Hmmm..... Sony just sounds too problematic. I think I'll get a Toshiba R205 instead. I've done far too much reading about OS reinstall issues, Sony's terrible phone support, changing model numbers, confusing configurations, and it's just all too muddled.
Anyone have a good reason why i SHOULD buy a Sony, speak now or forever hold your peace!
I'm making a purchase tomorrow by noon. -
they look nice

Does r205 have dedicated GPU or widescreen or core duo? As to service, Portableone has excellent service and they carry the Sony SZ now. You don't have to deal with Sony. Office Depot is carrying the SZ110 where I live. If none of these things matter go for the R205, seems like a waste to me though.
