Hi - I've had my SZ160 for a week now. Couldn't be happier with the machine. That's after having spent a miserable week trying to get the palm rest reinstalled on the Lenovo T60P machine I originally ordered.

Issue I'm encountering with the SZ160 = it has now just shut down randomly on me twice over the past 2 days. Not really doing anything mission critical at the moment, so don't really care. But its disconcerting. And I'm unsure of what's causing it. Both times, different times of day & total "on" time for the machine, I'm just looking at the screen and it goes blank, the system reboots, and I have to log back on. ?????? Weird.

Anyone else have this issue? I've searched the forum, but haven't found anything. Also any suggestions on what to do? Do I have a lemon that I need to return? I have not made any internal modifications to the machine & only do basic stuff, like MS Office, on the machine.

    Thanks.

hm. try a bios update - if you have the R0063N0 bios, it may
well be the cause of your problems. i had a very big problem
the past week, which was solved by downgrading to R0062N0.

apart from that i have no clue.. yet. i'll think on it though :)

A whole recover from your recover partition would be among the first things I would try.

This has started happening to my SZ160 - seems to involve my touching it, even if very gently. Does anybody have any more insight??

    Thanks

perhaps the battery is loose and it is losing contact for a moment? does it happen when it's plugged in as well?

Thanks :) - seems to have done the trick. Removed the battery, cleaned contacts, replaced, ..., so far so good.

fyi Sony Support immediately wanted me to do a full restore... fortunately I balked at that!

Glad you found the problem. The wobbly battery bothers me. I think I'm gonna do that felt fix.

With the SZ you have to make sure that the battery is locked. There is a release and a lock on the battery and you have to manually lock the battery, if you don't it will come loose when you are using it. Aswell this could solve some of the wobbly battery issues.
