Did anybody figure out if we can actually do this now? I mean since they released another BIOS for vista, do you think it supports the dual core 2?

What versions are there? Been looking around. Is it a Dual Core, Dual Core 2, Dual Core 2 duo? I'm lost.

there are two, Duo Core (32 bit) and Duo 2 Core (32 & 64bit)

I have DC too, and am thinking of upgrading to D2C. I heard that I may have to flash the ROM before changing the CPU.

but again.. I would wait until Santarosa platforms.. then see what's most cost effecient.

I am pretty sure I read a thread in here somewhere that you can flash with a bios (found only in Europe I think) and then the 160 will recognize the Core Duo 2.

There was a guy in Japan who did it...he said he used our BIOS (verison R0083N0). There's a R0092N0 for Vista Business also...so I'm assuming this one would work as well. I was thinking about doing this...but I think I'll wait till my lappy gets a little bit more out of date since Intel's Merom T7600 costs about $640.

Yes, you should be able to upgrade, but you may need a BIOS update, like the others have said. Bear in mind, that upgrading will void your warranty and it is very expensive to upgrade. If you use processor dependant tasks, then there may be a 10% increase in speed, however, for normal tasks, such as word processing and surfing the Internet, a difference will not be noticed.

The Merom core will let you use 64-bit programs, however, they are currently not released on the consumer market. It will take along time for 64-bit progams to hit the consumer market, and those that do, will be for processor intensive applications.
