    Gidday guys.

Well, I am considering defecting over to this side of the pond and getting an SZ 483. I currently have an ASUS W3J, but because I spend an awful lot of time on planes, am thinking of the Sony because it's a bit smaller and lighter. I haven't been able to find any reviews and am hoping someone can give me some first hand experience. What sort of battery life can I realistically expect, and does it have that bloody ugly antenna on the side I see on other models? How is the screen?

    Thanks guys

Hi wettek, I am too considering jumping from the W3J to the SZ series. If you are buying your SZ from Australia, the SZ will not have that "bloody ugly antenna". As for the screen, the SZ483 is the premium model that comes with LED, so youll have better battery life compared to the conventional screens. As for screen quality, its very good.

i am using one right now. yes, no "bloody antenna". and yes, the screen is gorgeous. loved the form factor and weight, too.

only thing you need to consider carefully is if you play games, 483 is good for light weight 3d games. as a point of reference, it runs command and conquer 3 decent enough, but company of heroes barely with most of the bell & whistle turn off.

    Thanks Lua.

How are you finding the battery life? I fly from Brisbane to Singapore every 3 weeks (about 7 hours) so the DVD player will be getting a fair workout. About the only games I would be playing are Flight Sim 4 or F16 (I'm into the flight sims). Thanks mate!

i have not have the opportunity to do a full test of battery life yet. from what little i observe when the unit is unplugged, i would estimate the battery life to be roughly 2 hours (power management set to vaio optimized) on "speed" mode.

I'll keep you posted if i have anything more concrete.
