Hey, so my mouse goes crazy every once in while, where it would just start going all over the place and click icons, move windows around, and freeze firefox. It only does this while i am moving on the touchpad, and when i let go it stops and within 10s or so it goes back to normal, once in a while requiring me to reboot the computer cause it is frozen.

so this happened since i got this computer over a year ago with vista, still does it with XP. I cant reproduce it by doing something, its just something that happens multiple times a day with no warning. Sony has replaced my touchpad once already, and it hasnt changed anything. I dont use a regular mouse so i dont know if it can happen with that mouse.

    Any ideas?
happen to n e one else?
    thanks

This is actually a common problem with the SZ series. Essentially, it was found that the trackpad hardware produces a low electromagnetic field from the electricity running through the silicon and wires that causes the trackpad to act up. It is also the reason why some peoples trackpads from the same series would randomly "reverse" or moving right would move the curson left instead on the screen. Sony has yet to make any official announcement about this problem even though it seems to be well known unfortunately. That being said, there was a poster a few pages back that provided a link to another site where a user details how he opened the laptop and trimmed something (I believe some plastic or something to that affect) that seemed to fix the problem for him. If you are comfortable with disassembling the notebook, you can either search these forums or via google and it should show up.

Even stanger - hit Ctr+Alt+Del and the issue disappears.

I had an inverted mouse twice ai think - nad a "crazy mouse" a few times (seldomly).
When I hit Ctr+Alt+Del the issue disappears...

    Have you actually tried that?
(Not shutting the computer down - but just getting the "task mager - lock computer - etc. screen")

Try putting the palm of your hand over it for a few seconds when this happens. Was a tip given to me with my old Powerbook g4 and it works wonders. Worked well so far on my SZ too.

Hm - I'll try it if I remember.

It occurs so seldomly that I generally don't need a cure :D

If it does occur again and if I remember I'll try.

    Than you :)

No problem. Be sure your palm covers as much of the trackpad as you can.
