    im new here, have a vgn-sz791n that got wet, was told by tech that it need a new motherboard. i see that the mbx-147 is visually the same as the mbx-170 that my laptop uses. does anyone know if i can use the 147 instead of the 170?

    try to send your mobo to repair at some ebay traders, they can repair wet boards and its cheaper then buying a new board.

    They can fix it, but they may not be able to say how long it will last. Though the same can be said fr a used board as well.

    SZ's essentially had 2 boards, the early model and the late model. The late model has an Nvidia 8400 GS and an Intel 965 chipset. The older had the Nvidia 7400 video card and a different Intel chipset (945?). You need the newer mode with the 965.
