so, when i first got my laptop (tz cto) the fingerprint worked fine. now it seems that it doesn't really work unless i hold down the shift key. half the time, that doesn't even do anything.

i can't bring up the biomenu about 50-60% of the time. anyone seen this? i've upgraded the protector suite to 5.8.2 but that didnt help.

    any thoughts?

Dab a bit of isopropyl alcohol onto a q-tip and clean it (that's what Upek recommends, I assume that's how you also clean other brands). If that doesn't work, then remove the PSQL, run Ccleaner to clean the registry keys and reinstall it.

Ccleaner is Crap Cleaner; finds and cleans leftover crap from installations, browsers etc.

I know this doesn't help you, but how did you upgrade the Protector Suite to 5.8.2?

gazelle, i think i got the upgrade from upek's site (or maybe sony), but i don't remember for sure. let me know if you want it and i'll upload it. it's about 45MB

here's an update, the problem i'm having apparently only happens when i'm on battery. when the laptop is plugged in, i have no issues. so, is there a setting in protector suite somewhere? or maybe it's in the computer's power settings? i've looked at all the settings (basic and advanced), but i'm not having any luck. anyone?

Gazelle, I had a problem last week with Protector Suite and bogart sent me a link to the upek website where I downloaded 5.8.2 and fixed my problem. Search for this thread for his link to the upek website.

Disable Password Bank for Protector Suite QL

just wanted to post the solution given to me by upek:

add the following to the registry (DWORD, 1):
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Protector Suite QL\1.0\DisableSensorSleep
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Protector Suite QL\1.0\DisableSelectiveSuspend
