Trying to do individual installation of software. The wifi connection util is telling me the hardware switch is off for those two devices, it shows the wifi as being on, but while the BT light is ON, the wifi util shows it as off.

EDIT: No, even the wifi shows as off. hmm I thought was showing on. BTW, must be a Sony hardware switch/software I need to install. which util does that?

you need to dl and install intel prowireless not just the drivers but the software also it is required in order for smartwi to function

no you dont need isbmgr that just detects if you have a oem battery and wont let you use a third party battery. I dont have isbmgr installed and my smartwi workst fine but you must have intel prowireless software

well thanks to something screwing up on the install, it now thinks something is wrong with my battery and keeps wanting to shutdown. I'm gonna just do the full install and uninstall everything I don't want. the speed of loading windows was getting to be about the same anyways. here goes another few hours

i'm having the same problem as the first guy, where it tells me to turn on my hardware switch when i run smartwi, but it is on. i can get wlan and BT to work using the protel wireless manager, and i followed danybui's instructions.. but still says hardware switch needs to come on.

any suggestions? w/o smartwi, i can't run the wwan, which i do actually need in this xpp install.

I had the same problem when I installed windows xp. There was actually a sony program in vista, i think it had to do it with the wlan, that turned on the wlan, wifi, and bluetooth individually internally regardless of the physical switch. I had to restore vista and turn it on, then reinstall windows xp. I didnt use the intel prowireless manager to save space on my ssd.

okay, i think i understand lightbulb. I do have the vista recovery disk, as well as the sony xp downgrade disks for xp for the tz. is that how you did it? i tried using my other multi-license xp install and tried to supplement it w/ the drivers and utilities from the sony support site using danybui's guide.

At first I thought the wifi was broken, the switch was on but the light next to it was off and the computer kept saying wifi was turned off.

I had to reinstall vista again and turn on the wifi and bluetooth with the software (forgot which), youll know they are on when you see them light up next to the switch. I was trying to figure out a way to just turn off wlan to save the battery but shut of the wifi also. I didnt find a way to turn it on with the software in xp.
But once its on, you can reformat and reinstall windows xp.
