    hi,
1st post here... i like this place, like a huge melting pot of info for all kinds of things. anyways the subject header is my question...

is the tz190+ worth the +$700-900 dollar price? i am really looking at getting the SSD version but the price difference versus the tz150 at about $2250 w/2day shipping does look better. the reasons for me looking at the SSD version first is the fact that i wont be affected by upgradatis... its more-less maxxed out with the extra ram and SSD.... so to the point... i want to purchase soon so can you other owners help me!
    thx!

    edit:
so from what i've read, ssd vs. hd is almost a wash.... here's what i have found.

    transfer speed - ssd
    read/write speed - hd
    burst - hd
    seek time - ssd
    capacity - hd
    battery life - ssd
    price - hd
    durability - ssd

4-4... even but given the price and capacity with the new technology, its almost a wash...

imho - forget SSDfor now unless you don't mind the performance issues (which might not be that noticeable in real terms who knows?) or the fact that you will have very very little space to play with.
For me the major down-point is the capacity....then the 'performace increase|cost ratio'. I am opting for a Japanese import with the 160Gb HDD (no dvd-drive either) and then slapping in an SSD after its gone through another generation or two ;)

    You forgot to mention:

    no moving parts
less heat generated by SSD which mean less fan noise
    no more HDD spinning noise
    less vibration

the performace? Yes, you can feel it.

Sony just released their tz91s in Japan (2 more new colors). tz91=tz195, it has 48GB/64GB SSD as new options. 32GB SSD model is discontinued. So now you have more room to work with. Only downside is the 3k+ price tag.

Im sorry, but I believe that comparison is wrong.

You see, the option in the US TZ for hd is a 4200 rpm hard drive, which is SUPER slow.

So the burst, and write times are still faster with the SSD.

If you plan on installing XP on the tz, then get the tz150, it will run nicely. But if you plan on using Vista and memory-demanding applications, I recomend the tz190 or 191.

    Cheers

    hi,
thx for all the input but after all the painstaiking research i've done, i have decided on a tz150, actually it will be in my hands within the next few days. for the price at the moment it couldn't possibly been a better deal. also with the ability to upgrade later, its kinda win/win for me. do you guys know anyone successfully installing an SSD drive into a TZ where a HD was present? i heard something about a ZIF connector to the IDE 1.8ssd??? is there anything confirmed? i know getting to the hard drive part itself requires taking apart the laptop... hopefully it doesn't look too risky... and i have looked at some ram but im not sure but it looks like it can be purchased for less than 150 for a 2 gig stick that will be compatible. anyone got any good sources??

    peace/.

with that being said, look at the above post, forgot to quote you but i do plan on upgrading to SSD one of these days... and also to 2gb ram. do you know how photoshop runs on ssd compared to the 4200? that may be my main application...
