Have you installed all the drivers ? It could be the Intel TPM driver.
(Anyway, even if this device remains unknown, it won't matter) -
Well, just encountered same problem on sony laptop above. I went back over all drivers I had installed and only on driver wasn't installed. It was the "SFEP Driver (Sony) 7.0A - 7.0.0.5_101606_logo". Installed it and unknown driver problem went away.
Hope this helps.

sounds like a hard drive controller in which case you need to install the driver from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...OSs=164&OSFullName=Windows Vista* 32&lang=eng

I downloaded the ITECIR Infrared IDT STAC9271 Audio Driver (
sp40438.exe) for my HDX9300T and it fixed it!

I am working on a Sony VGN-FZ240E...I had the missing ICH8M LPC Interface Controller missing also...Actually the Problems Reports and Solutions figured out that it is actually the Sony Firmware Extension Parser listed under System Components on Sony's support site...hope that this helps someone else.
