Looks like sz series can only use memory up to 533MHz, any way to unlock this and put in a 677MHz memory and make it run at 677MHz?

Since the memory is so cheaper this month. :)

Which processor do you have? Which SZ do you have?

If it has a 533 FSB you can use 667, but it will only run at 533.

I think the memory speed is looked in the BIOS - but it doesn't mind me, the way from 533 to 667 MHz is not a big speed incrase. I've 2 GB 533 MHz DDR2 RAM using Vista and i'm very happy with that :)

I think its just the memory that Sony uses. I looked at my specs last night, and it lists the front side bus at 667mhz, but the RAM chips are 533 mhz. I have been pondering purchasing a set up 667 chips (my wife needs a memory upgrade and the 553's would work for her), but have not yet ordered them.

its not the memory, its something to do with the bios. i have upgraded to ddr667, but its still reading 533 in cpu-z

Yes. I also check out that the front side bus at 667mhz. Does this means the memory can be 667Mhz? The next good upgrade I think is hard drive to 7200 rps?

I don't know if anyone do this, but I will check the bios tonight if I can change the memory speed.

I'm pretty sure you can't do that otherwise someone else would of said by now since this has been discussed so many times.

    truelies,

Did you upgrade both sticks with 667Mhz DDR2? Another thing, does CPU-Z report the memory modules have supported 333Mhz frequency under SPD tab?

Some SZ users in the forum have already reported that Sony has installed DDR2 667 originally on their SZ4xx. So is there any possibilities that Sony will unclok mem speed for SZ or never....???

Could you run CPU-Z, go to the tab "SPD", print screen and post here so everybody can see it?

    If the SZ3xx hasn't changed pins to SZ4xx, I know the SZ4xx use 200pins.
