Hello,
I have a Vaio SZ with the XP home pre-installed.I need to upgrade to Professional. Since I dont have a separate CD for XP home, is getting the XP Professional Upgrade enough? I am worried that when I upgrade to professional, it might prompt me for some files where I need to have a actual XP Home CD. Has anyone ever had problems with upgrading? I dont want to spend money on the upgrade version only to find out it wont work..then again, XP Prof full version is too expensive..
please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!![]()

Typically when you put the Pro CD in with Home it will ask you if you want to upgrade or do a clean install with the latter usually being a better option. Do you not have the recovery discs for Home?

How much are you planning to spend on the XP Pro upgrade?
I know OEM versions of Pro should be rather cheap by now. I've bought one a while back for $130--so it must be lower than that by now. Just in case you prefer a cleaner install option. -
Hi, thank you for reply.
The VAIO did not come with the recovery disks, but I did create one (although I havent tested it yet).
So you do suggest I go with the upgrade or get the full version? I checked out Best Buy and the updagrade is $199 and the full version is $299. I dont know where to get the OEM.
Please advise! Thanks again..
*I know Vista is coming out but I need XP Pro for Oracle 10g so Vista is out of my option. -
Curious --- how did you get an SZ with XP Home pre-installed? All SZs (mine included) normally ship with XP Pro pre-installed.

I know you can get a OEM copy of Pro with Vista upgrade coupon in the $140 range. If you don't care about the Vista coupon, you can get it for about $80 on Pricegrabber.
