How hard/easy is it to upgrade the processor in a Vaio?
For e.g., T6600 to P8700?
-
I guess it depends on the model. For my SR290 and a friend's SR240 it was very easy. I upgraded from a P8600 to a T9600. It took about a half an hour to remove the back of the notebook, swap CPU's and re-assemble.
You need to make sure the new cpu is compatible with your notebook too.

Thanks! Well, I don't know the models well. I guess I was looking at SR, FW and maybe CW. I like the Z and other models that have high res option and LED screen but can't afford those ones.
I believe the ones i mention are available with T6600 cpu so I think they are upgradable to say, P8700 or similar? -
I was amazed at how easy it was to upgrade my cheap (uh, I mean low cost) NW225 from a T4300 to a T9300. I just unplugged it, took out the battery, took out the visible screws and voila! the bottom panel just came off and there was the heatsink/fan. It recognized the new cpu, and the bios offered virtualization with no hacks or bios upgrade.
After having wrestled with my HP dv6000 to replace the MB several times, the Vaio was a SNAP! -

I know right! My VAIO is possibly the easiest to take apart computer I've ever owned, besides my mbp. And I've had to work on some HP's and they are a b**** to get apart, every one of em. -
the vaio sz series also easy to upgrade since just removing screws on the bottom
