I took a look at sony.co.jp late last night to check whether there will be one with premium carbon like the SZ did. There wasn't any but I found something very interesting. Their Z model is coming with different patterns on the top cover, some special pad right next to the mouse area (probably for credit card or some kind of card reader) and the 2.8Ghz chip that is only offered here in the US in the FW. Any thought about this?

Quite common. Japan usually gets the better configs and more lids. Same for TZ.

While the 2.8 CPU sounds nice, but it also has a TDP of 35w. (vs. 25w for the lower models)

lol I just checked sony.com now and they have some contest going on. Design your cover and win $5000 + trip to NY and have your design sold Sony laptops.

Yeah, Japan gets better configs and the custom lids, as mentioned, like the TZ.

The thing right beside the trackpad is Japan exclusive; it's most likely a card reader of some sort, however I'm not sure what kind of card it reads.

It's a FeliCa Reader. The Japanese can use it for shopping
