A general question to SZ users:

When you use the external display to show a powepoint presentation with a projector, you have a choice to toggle between lcd only, projector only, or lcd and projector. Here is my dilemma, I currently own an Asus W7j which has many features I like compared to the SZ. I also own an ageing Sony S380p. Hooking my new w7j to the office projector, I can use the projector on lcd + projector or projector only (asus calls this CRT only) and show a powerpoint presentation. My problem is that small video clips refuse to play using the w7j in LCD + projector mode, but they will play in projector only mode. Strangely, my S380p with the same clips and powerpoint presentation shows them just fine on the same projector in any mode. Both are set to a native resolution of 1280 x 800 although I have also tried 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600. The projector supports resolutions higher than the output of either laptop. The S380p has a geforce go 6200 while my Asus has the 7400 go just like the SZ. My question is has anyone tried playing video clips on their SZ using the lcd + CRT combination mode? I need this mode because I use my notebook to lecture. So if the SZ works in this capacity I can return the W7 and get the comparable SZ.
    Thanks
    Scott

hmm.. double check your W7J setup before doing anything drastic, since video clips should play no matter what the diplay config.

Are you using the extended display or mirroring displays?

regarding the SZ, i have used a SZ+CRT and SZ+LCD in extended desktop display mode, and CRT/LCD-only. Video clips work fine in either window.

i also use UltraMon now to manage my mutiple display configs (since i run my displays at different resolutions) and it works great. This program may help you solve your W7J woes.

@archie88: Thanks for your comments, I am not sure what you mean by mirroring displays, the three opitions I have when I press Fn +F8 are lcd, CRT only, and LCD+CRT. I found out from my reseller that decreasing hardware acceleration cures the blank screen during video playback.

    Try this:

    1) Open Windows Media Player

    2) Go to Tools > Options

    3) Click on the Performance tab, then click the Advanced button

    4) Uncheck "Use Overlays"

    Try again on the projector...

    Let us know !

Try right-clicking your Desktop anb then clicking Properties. Then goto Settings and if you have an external monitor plugged in, you should be able to enable it from there, as well as see some additional options.

Mirroring is when you have two screens that are showing the same thing. Extended desktop is when you have two monitors (e.g. LCD+SZ) displaying one big screen that extends across both monitors.

@ikaris Yes unchecking overlays in media player allows me to see the video on the projector. This change does not seem to work inside powepoint with the same video clip. Very odd. I even saved the clip in mediaplayer as a new file and inserted it into powerpoint. Any other thoughts.

@archie88 when the projector is hooked up and I can see the image on the screen, i rt clicked to get properties then settings and I see the nivdia display 1 and display 2 as I always see but no new options to mirror.

Thank you both for you comments.

    Hi There,

I have upgraded the Nvidia drivers to the latest version using the tweaked .inf files at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

I had the same problem and tracked it down to an NVidia setting. Go to display settings and then advanced and on the "Video Overlay Settings" page of the Nvidia Properties Enable VMR.

    Cheers
