I could've sworn I read this somewhere, but I looked around and couldn't find it, so here goes again.

Does anybody know how to mute the startup sound?
I guess the volume controls only effect sounds within windows.
Both my desktop and old laptop had hardware volume controls, so the volume was always uniformly loud or quiet.

If anybody can help me fix this little annoyance, that'd be great.
I hate having to turn on my laptop in class, or in a library, and have the startup sound ring through the room.

You can disable it in the BIOS. Look for "Speaker Volume" and set it to 0 or OFF (default value is 4). This wont affect your volume in windows.
