hi everyone, i was silently reading through the forums for the last couple of weeks until i decided to purchase a tx1xp (european version without wan). i just unpacked everything and am pretty amazed by this little notebook wonder. however i'm little upset not to find an original windows xp and drivers cd along with the package. and all that sony software crap pretty much messes up the operating speed and drive space, so i guess a complete windows reinstalation is unavoidable. in addition to that i ordered a 1gb ram upgrade. is there anything i should be aware of before formating? any other tuning suggestions are highly appreciated.. so far, phil

The first thing I did, before installing a single application, was create a recovery DVD set using Sony's Vaio Recovery application. Once I had that I used it to completely format the C: drive, choosing to DELETE the recovery partition. Since I have the recovery set on 2 DVDs, I don't need that hidden partition. It freed up about 9 gigs of hard drive space. After the rebuild I simply removed all the Sony applications I wasn't interested in keeping (which was nearly everything), and installed my applications and data. The result was a fairly lean system.

"Instant On" will be reinstalled during the rebuild. You're not going to lose it.
