Hello,
I have a TZ250N with the stock ram. When I check the ram with "memtest" it shows :
177 MHz (DDR 354) / CAS 3-3-3-9 / Single Channel (64 bits)
Normally the ram should be DDR 667 .
I tried to replace the ram with another 2 gig stick from another laptop and I had even worst result 154 MHZ .
Anybody has any idea why it shows that and how to tell the bios to detect the ram correctly and get it to work as DDR 667 ? What could be wrong
thanks a ton for your time and help

Download CPU-z from cpuid.com and check what it says for memory speed.
-
It says Dram Frequency 199.5 Mhz
fsb.dram 2:3
3-3-9-12
is this normal?
thanks again -
If I remember correctly, RAM speed can be set in BIOS or VAIO Control Center
-
There is nothing in BIOS, unless there is some key to hit to get in an "advanced" bios mode. In regular bios I only can set up password/time/etc . very basic nothing about ram.
Am I missing something? -
Open Vaio Control Center, there should be an option under performance tab in system information if I remember correctly
-
You can set it at 400 Mhz (system default) or 533 Mhz. I dont know why it isnt at 533 default, faster but doensnt use more power from the battery, I've changed it myself to the higher speed.
The 667 Mhz fsb is not available in TZ models. The U7600 cpu used in it only goes to 533 Mhz. -
thanks for the advice. I changed it in Control Center and it shows now as:
DRAM Freq: 266 Mhz
thanks -
That is the correct speed, since its DDR the effective working frequency is 266x2 = 533 Mhz. Previously it was working at 200x2 = 400 Mhz.
