usually when this happen that's mean that your inverter is damaged
but AFAIK Sony panels come with inverter built in "maybe only LED ones?" -
Do you still see the screen except it's out if back light? How's about the damaged one? Did you see it have back light on?
-
the old screen also does not have the back ligt on any longer.
any ideas what might be causing it?
thank you. -
the old, damaged screen does not have the back light also any longer.
and i do not think that a new screen would have a damaged inverter. the inverter is built in the panel. -
You need to know how to open your laptop and soldering skill to fix the problem.

There is a blown fuse on motherboard need to be fixed.
-
is it just a simple fuse for laptops or sony one? where i can get one?
thank you. -
Hi, i'm having the exactly same problem with my Sony vaio vgn-sz760n laptop.
I've just replaced my LED LCD screen with a new one and both, the old and new one are black.
Does this blown fuse means there's a need to replace the whole motherboard? or only the fuse? if so, did you discovered which fuse is it?
Thanks! -
thank you. -
I have found something here:
http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/15026/
"finally found a solution:
there is a smd fuse on the lcd pcb which had to be replaced.
after that the lcd worked fine again."
so there's something called smd fuse which need to be replaced.
searching that on shopping sites and in goolge... seems it's quite cheap. the question is if it's easy to replace it. -
For anyone interested in replacing the standard HD on the Sony VGN-TX750P with an SSD (Solid State Drive), I only found one that would slide into the 50pin IDE connector, and it cost over $600 for 64GB.
I found another way, and it works awesome:
I bought a 64GB CF card off ebay for $300. I bought a Startek IDE to CF adapter (Startek P/N IDE502CFE) for about $30.
The adapter slid right into the hard drive slot and the BIOS recognized it with no issues. I'm now running Linux Ubuntu 9.10 and the machine is VERY FAST.
Windows would do just fine as well, but I'm tired of that OS and all the troubles it brings.
The other thing that made a huge difference, is my battery life got about 20% better due to not running a disc...
Enjoy! -
where exactly is smd fuse placed? since my lcd screen is new i do not think it would come with a faulty fuse.
will never buy a sony product again. (i have a sony pc as well and have two flickering vertical lines across the monitor, decided too expensive to repair). -
The fuse supposed to be located on the mother board.
Same as you, I also not intend to buy a sony product ever again...
Currently my laptop is at a local service lab that claims that the whole motherboard should be replaced. I intend to look for this fuse and replace it myself.
The motherboard costs around 360$ while the fuse is less than 1 dollar...
so I am willing to take these chances.
The only unsolved question is if it is that easy to replace it...
and another question that i've just thought about is if there are more than one fuse type, which type should i get...
Maybe ngvuanh has the answers? -
ngvuanh, it seems, is not reading our thred any longer. would be good to hear what he says. -
The SMT fuse is circled red.
You don't need to replace it, just short it.
If you don't feel comfortable, I can do that for you a small fee.
You can damage the fuse, but you should NOT damage fuse PADs on the PCB.
If so, you have to replace whole board.
I will not be responsible for any damage to the laptop. Do it at your own risk.
I may know who I am by visit micropctalk.com
LiadM,
I haven't take a look at SZ760. However, SZ with LED LCD has a daughter board call DC board to drive LED LCD.
Your SZ may got bad that board.

Both are similar and say surface-mount.

do you perhaps know of a photo of a vaio laptop motherboard with a marked fuse that needs to be fixed? if so, could you send me the link? will ty to fix it myself but am not sure which one it is. would really appreciate it.
thank you. -
I took that photo for you.
You don't even know where to locate the fuse based on the photo.
If so, you probably couldn't do anything except send it to a repair shop. -
thank you again. it is most helpfull. -
-
If you make sure the screen is working on other laptop, then it's fuse problem. Otherwise, there is more problem with your laptop.
-
i also have a pc (vgc-v3s)that i have a problem with, also sony. (two vertical 2 inch wide lines across the screen). do you think you can help here. much appreciated. -
ngvuanh is the man - When all else failed, I heated the fuse & removed it. I then jumped the connections & the screen works now. This was a temp fix for TS only, now i need to find a new fuse. This fuse is very tiny - needle nose tweezers & a slim tip soldering iron are in order. BIG Thanks to ngvuanh & everyone for all the detailed questions on this thread.

Which CF card did you choose? I see 64GB as low as $170. My main concern is that most CF cards are optimized and spe'c for sequential access only. Can you post some crystalDiskMarks scores showing the 4K write performance on yours?
Also, I am curious as to whether (and which) CF cards support trim?
