hello, recently my z1's touchpad is behaving weirdly. sometimes it works, sometime doesn't and sometime the cursor moves by itself. it feels like that its sensing two fingers touch and just zoom in or out the active window. Any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Have you opened up your laptop recently? is it under contract? Did you recently update drivers? are you sure it's not your palm or another finger(ie. your thumb)? How long have you had your Z, it takes some getting used to... (when it first came out, we had several posts like this where people ended up realizing their thumb on the buttons was touching the touchpad itself)

I know what exactly you mean. The touchpad doesn't work great or at all when there is moisture present on it, from your fingers, or a recent swipe to clean it with something. If your case is the same, sometimes you'll have to get a dry cloth and rub the touchpad to dry it up. If it still doesn't work then, usually it will take a reboot to fix.

If that's not it, check your synaptic settings for the adjustment of PalmCheck feature and so on.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Synaptics driver several times and it always cures any problems. Shouldn't be necessary, but quite easy for full remedy that lasts months at least.

Also, I've done better with the drivers from the Synaptics web site. They caution that they may not work as well as your mfr's OEM drivers, but in this case, you get more functions (like two finger scrolling, others) and it seems more stable.

Thanks for the input. I have never opened it or updated the drivers and its still under warranty. I am using this one from last 6 months but quiet familiar with sony's from last 5-6 years. I am sure that no other finger or thumb is touching the pad or any moisture present.

Whenever i reboot, it works fine for sometime and then stops or acts if two finger are touching the pad. Is it something to do with static?
