Maybe only your system is corrupted. What's your write cache policy for C: drive?

Try fixing your registry or use restore option before calling sony!

I don't think the problem is caused by the power surge though. I've accidentally unplugged my computer (either via shutting down the power or unplugging the cord) for at least 3 times and it's still operational.

So you can boot in stamina and use your computer normally or not?

still can't boot from speed mode...
the thing is ..how the hell can a power surge affect and make the comp un startable through registry mods
and isn't it a bit of a joke for a high end laptop to need restore everytime a power surge happens

One, thats not a power surge. That's just unplugging your laptop. A power surge is say you pumped 600v into your Z. That's a power surge. Two, you say you can boot up in stamina mode. Have you tried doing that and then switching to speed. Mine has done the reverse a few times. I can't boot in stamina mode, but I can in speed mode. Once it's back up, I can switch back to stamina.

hey travfar, if you read my original post i did write power outage, and so was my original post which was also written as power outage. everything dealing with speed does not work...when i switch on the fly light stays on stamina but button is on speed. I"ve reformated and have done a restore and everything seems to be ok now..but i honestly don't know what teh hell happened.

My guess is that your windows installation became corrupt because of the instant shutoff not allowing the buffers to be written out. It happens. You can adjust the size of the disk cache and thus reduce the liklihood of this. Adjust the size to zero aka turn it off and that will make your machine safer but also much slower.
