I have a vaio z13 that is now about 11months old. In the last weeks the touchpad have gotten some kind of problems, it may work normally for hours but then suddenly the mouse pointer starts shaking and wont move when I use the touch pad or then it moves very badly.
Anybody else with the same issue? I can tell it is a hardware problem since reinstalled windows and that didn't change anything. This problem started when I was in Bejing where the air there was very humid.

that is just what I was planning to do, but I heard so many bad things about Sony's warranty service in Finland so I was asking in case there would be a easy DIY fix...

lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
I do have a DIY you can easily try:
1) Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and uninstall your Synaptics touchpad drivers
2) go to Drivers | Synaptics and download and install the driver set that matches your configuration, probably these: Windows XP/Vista and Win7 64-bit Edition v15.2.20
3) restart your computer and go to Control Panel -> Mouse and play with the settings to suit your preferences (you will find quite a few more options than your original Sony/Synaptics drivers provided; some will work better than others, but the basics all work fine for me)
4) Make sure to hit Apply and Ok until all the Synaptics windows are closed
5) Go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features and uninstall the Synaptics "Scrybe" drivers. These automatically install with the new drivers you get from the Synaptics driver page I directed you to in step 2. I have never found these useful, and they sometimes pop up and get in the way of your work. You may want to read up on them (on the Synaptics site) and you may find you can make them work for you as I never have been able to do. Choice is yours, but if you just want to get your touchpad to work like it used to, I would get rid of these as soon as you have set your new Synaptics settings to work for you (if you find the "Scrybe" stuff intriguing, you can always install it separately at a later time).
If after doing all of this, your problem remains, it's hardware related and the advice of going right to Sony before your warranty expires is an unavoidable necessity. You can even do that first, just so you have a case file assigned clearly before your warranty expires, but before getting sucked into their vortex, you might want to try my suggestion first.
Finally (sigh, I can never seem to write brief, succinct directions), if my approach does not fix your problem and you need to go the Sony route, before you call them, go to the Sony driver page for your model # and re-install the original Sony-certified Synaptics touchpad drivers that came with your computer. Sony could always decide that you "damaged" the computer by installing "unauthorized" drivers!
Good luck!
