    The notebook is brilliand for the money you pay (I got it from e-shop.gr for a very good price). It has a powerfull processor, not a small hard drive, not bad graphics and (for some of as very important) a lot of RAM (although with 32-bit windows versions you can use only the 3 of the 4 Gb).

    The problem is that to stay in the guarantee, if you have put XP, you should re-install the original image. So, be careful, first thing you buy, make a backup with the sony software provided. This way you you have also a safe state in any case.

    Everything is working fine now!

    The biggest pain in the ass is the sound drive. Check the following article which explains a simple process. Uninstall the drive (if you already have attemted to have one), Download and install the following fix for windows kb888111xpsp2 and then http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/kb888111xpsp2.exe http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O29PZ470 . If the links are gone, check the following article that treats the issue:

    http://club.vaio.sony.ru/clubvaio/R...C2EBE3F86.beru-lars?thread=49761&printall=yes

    Hoping that it works...

    Still searching for bluetooth...

    So,
    before we proceed to xp issues, i have to admit that this notebook is a truly reliable workhorse! Ok, i am a Sony freak since ages, though good products make good followers. Right now, i'm back to Vista, till i find the appropriate xp drivers, although i used Xp on this notebook for 2-3 days and the thing is:
    i am a musician and my girlfriend is an architect, so we're talking about hardcore multimedia and CAD processings (exclussively on desktop Pcs). While on Xp, despite of the absence of some drivers, which anyway did not affect our work, we've installed everything from both sides, music and cad, and Vaio proved an excellent worker! The problem is Vista...still. This very system is still unstable for demanding and hardworking users. That's why i'm considering downgrade to Xp. If you're thinking about buying one, just go and get it. Loukoulos, it's been a great help with the drivers! I'll do my search as well for the rest of them and we talk again. Next time i'll tell you a short funny story with Sony supportline in Belgium. Till then ... na ste kala.

    Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset --> http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-025753.htm

    NVIDIA --> http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRA...Go-15655.shtml

    Modem --> http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...d=2725&os_id=7

    wireless-->
    http://www.opendrivers.com/freedownl...-download.html

    Camera (Vista = xp ) --> ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/OS/XPDOW.../FZ29/DRIVERS/

    Sound --> http://www.codedworld.com/download/e...ver/48321.html

    But I find some still has name like vistarXXXX.exe

    Only the camera driver is similar fot both. All others are xp drivers.

    As I said in my second post, I suggest Driver Genius to find almost all drivers.

    The Asian Vaio site provides the FZ3 series with the XP drivers : http://www.sony-asia.com/support/download/240670

    I found the actual audio driver and I think the rest are same as the European version. Check and confirm. Don't blame loukoulos after...

    But the only thing that worries me is that the Brightness control button doesn't work anymore, is this right our not???
    Because i do alot of work at night in the dark so i like to adjust the brightness of the screen, can you guys help me with this isue from experience with the laptop and tell me if your happy with the fz38m.
    Thanks Rossi

    When the Operating System is changed from Windows Vista to Windows XP, and these drivers and applications are installed, the following will be experienced:
    1. AV Mode Button cannot be used.
    2. Instant On mode cannot be used.
    3. Fn+F5/Fn+F6 Function Key(Brightness Control) cannot be used.
    4. Fn+F10(Zoom in/out function) cannot be used.
    5. When connected with HDMI, the sound output does not work.

    As I told you, these driver are not for our model. Although there are somethings that didn't work before and they do now.

    The FZ38m is the best in its category if you use XP.

    Good luck.
