I installed Windows 7 on my VAIO. When I hit the volume button on the keyboard, now there's no volume display bar showing on the screen

You need the install the necessary Sony drivers and apps to have the volume /brightness OSD.

Please please could you send me the link to the correct driver and app as I have no idea where to find them. If you send the link, will I be able to just hit it and it will download?

The volume key does adjust the volume, but the bar doesn't show on the screen any more.

    Thank you!

Try this: Sony eSupport - Electronics

Under software drivers, look for those corresponding to your laptop. I think you're looking for Notebook utilities (?)

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life.

There is this marvelous feature here on NBR called "search". With it you can find the answers to many of the questions you might have, including this one. There are entire threads devoted to this topic.

Yes but if I'm the only fisherman around, I can jack the price up to whatever I want. Then I can be really, really rich! Hahaha! :p

I'm sorry I'll go stand in the corner now...

How can you send you a link without any clue of knowing what model of Vaio you own?

Actually I've been to that eSupport site, but am not sure which one to click on in order to solve the volume display bar issue.

If you would only follow Rajesh's instructions and take a look at his clean install guide, you just might find what you are looking for. You are under the mistaken impression that just loading a single driver is going to magically fix the issue. If you would bother to look at the guide you'd find out that there are libraries and drivers involved and that there is a particular sequence in which these need to be installed.
