Hey, i have the VPCZ1390X, and i usually use the laptop in dark lighting, and most of the time, the stupid backlit keyboard won't turn on i put my finger over the sensor and still nothing. it's just it just stalls or whatever. the only way to get it back to work is to either sleep and resume the machine or reboot. it's really a pain in the *** especially as i have vpn connections, and downloads running all the time too. i shouldn't have to be going through this crap. it's long bothered me, but i am hoping someone here has a solution to this problem.
i'm also looking to adjust the sensitivity from the registry to make the backlit keyboard turn on more often...like typical indoor livingroom/bedroom setting or so.
if you'd like to experiment/have a look, check this registry node for alot of options.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Corporation\VAIO Event Service\Settings\VESAutoDimmer
Also.. anybody ever noticed they spelled backlight wrong in those registry keys at the bottom of the list?![]()
As a matter of fact, I think i already complained on this forum about the brightness setting also being stuck sometimes it wouldn't ever budge.. that's when i had auto-brightness on but i use bios hack and static vga setting now, without auto-brightness and i no longer have that issue .. probably because it's not a automatic setting.
for some reason, i think the service that runs for this thing to work frequently gets messed up, bigtime

I think this happens when you use temperature programs like AIDA/Everest and HWMonitor.

Thanks for the info so much. I wouldn't have even suspected AIDA was doing that, but just yesterday, it was the culprit for choppy sound/mouse freeze on my desktop every minute or so. So i guess it's because of some setting in aida I know that kind of program taps into deep system resources maybe replacing/loading some drivers that cause issues.
Thanks again
vpcz1390x backlit keyboard doesn't always come on when i want it too. pissing me off
