    Hi,

I'm just wondering if any of u guys have problem watching dvds say from region 2 when your dvd is set to region 1 on the tz?

I've search around and apparently the mat****a dvd doesn't work with region free programmes like any dvd etc.

if any of u guys have a similar problem or know a way around it, i would greatly appreciate it!

    thanks

    pck

I'd use DVD Shrink to make a backup copy of the DVD without the region coding. You might lose a little quality since the default setting is to make the DVD small enough to fit on a single layer DVD, but you won't notice the difference.

You can actually keep the 100% quality by re-authoring it, and splitting the chapters and write them to 2 dvd's. Another good method is to transcode them into xvid so it is small enough to keep them in the hard disc.

As is well known, the lovely manufacturer of the DVD drive in all Sony Vaio laptops cannot be made region free, nor will software do it.

Doesn't work. Matshu****a is one of the unhackable drives. There is no region free firmware.

What about AnyDVD, would that make it region-free?

Nope. Doesn't work on Sony laptops - the Mat drive ignores it.

no it will not work on the tz.. basically the drive is refusing to read it .. so you need a region free dvd drive to extract it to the pc.. (or your external drive) and then watch on your notebook.. if you have an external drive.. you need not burn it on a disk.. you may chose to watch from the external drive or transfer to your hard disk.

Hmm.. weird. On my TX (which also has a matsu****a) I am able to watch a PAL DVD on videolan. The same DVD does not work on my region-1 locked NTSC DVD player downstairs though.

Btw, have you tried going to device manager -> matsu****a (w/e model) -> when the window opens up there is a "dvd region" tab which allows you to change the region (a limited number of times). Does this show up for you?
