Okay, I've (finally) made a decision about what computer I'm going to get. However, hoping for some feedback before making the big purchase!
I should probably note that I am not going to be using this for gaming; I need a very portable laptop since I'll be going to and from law school every day.

Here are the specs of what I'm considering. What do yall think? Good deal for the $$?

Sony VGN-SZ240 (The Sony Vaio SZ series)

Intel Duo Core Processor 1.66 GHz
    512 MB RAM
    60 G hard drive
    CD-RW/DVD drive
    silver keyboard
Windows XP Home (I can get XP Pro free from my brother, which I'm going to do)
    Large capacity lithium ion battery

    Total price: $1520

Added the 3 year onsite service plan, for a grand total of $1769.99

    Any thoughts? Thanks!!!

Looks great to me as your not gaming. SZ is definitely the notebook to go with for portability too so you should be fine.

I have roughly the same sz (1.8ghz cpu) and I use it for law school too. It's been great! I'm taking summer classes now and it lasts through the 3 hour sessions perfectly (this is with the standard battery with other stuff disabled). I'm sure with the extended battery it'll last even longer.

imo, i would get 1gb of ram if possible (whether or not you get it thru sony is up to you). nowadays, 512mb often isn't enough even for "normal" applications

Im pretty sure for Law you wouldnt require any intensive application. Though yes good point 1GB RAM would guarantee you Windows Vista running.
