as documented in this thread, i was the subject of some pretty crappy luck.
1) bought an SSD, which may or may not have come with the clamp needed to keep it in place
2) install place near me tried to use the original toshiba's clip on the SSD, failed and now I have two broken drives.
My question is now this: where can I buy a replacement hard drive for the sony tz170n/b that will work FOR SURE??? i really don't have the $ for all of these mishaps, but I do badly need this computer to get up and running. can anyone recommend a reputable seller for getting a new hard drive? at this point, I don't care if it's traditional HDD or SSD.. but I'm not sure I can afford to get another potentially defective SSD
I can't seem to find any drives on the sony support site..

those will be really hard to find because toshiba doesnt sell them individually only in containers of 10000 or so so ebay would be your best bet try buying a broken laptop and make sure its a 1.8 hdd

i see. i'm on the phone now w/ sony and they're telling me it's $420 for a new toshiba drive. ugh... all this just to get it back to where i started. the only thing about doing an ebay thing is not being able to guarantee that it will work for sure.
