Hi guys
I purchased a vaio fz18g off ebay, and the guy said it was "brand new" when I got it It said I only had 110gb of my 160gb free. I looked at the program files, and it seems as though there is 30gb missing? sorry for such a rookie question!
any way to check?

I would just clean install and not worry about checking.

So you are saying that you have a 160GB hard drive with 110GB free. Presumably somewhere around 20GB is taken up with OS files, programs, Restore /Shadow Copy stuff, but where is the remaining 30GB? Are you saying it is in Program Files? You should be able to check the properties of folders to see how much space they are taking up by right-clicking the folder, selecting 'Properties' and looking under 'Size'.

search. pun intended.

Exactly! I am not sure where the remaining 30gig is, I have checked the program files and it is not there...any other ideas where it would be?

Sony has a lot of bloatware installed on their machines, plus there's a recovery partition on the hard drive that takes up a few gigs. You can create recovery disks from that and delete the partition.
Also, a hard disk, flash drive, etc. will never have the total marketed amount, its about 93% of whats advertised. So a 160gb hard drive should have a bit less than 150gb available, and then all the bloatware and recovery partition takes the rest. -
I did a clean install and I have 92 GB remaining in my 120 GB hard drive.
where did all my hard drive go?
