ive always only checked prices at sony.com bc they allow you to customize it, but it seems a lot of people here are buying them from 3rd party sites.
1) is it cheaper on 3rd party sites?
2) where are you buying it if so
3) has anyone bought over the phone? ive heard cheaper prices doing that at other websites

Oh I guess I will jump on this hand grenade first.
CompUSA.
Yes I know I overpaid a bit. Yes I know that the TAP deal is a ripoff. But I am one of those strange customers that does a ton of traveling with my notebook and I needed to know that I could take the unit back to a person, explain the problem and get the unit replaced with no questions asked. Also, with all of the time on travel chargers and foreign voltage, I use the CompUSA battery replacement. I can get it replace twice in two years. On top of that, my plan includes the LCD replacement clause. So any twit reclines their seat onto my PC and shatters the screen, I will not be shedding as many tears.
I know that you can get the same coverage with Sony extended warranties, but I like being able to show somebody the problem and letting them see that the warranty covers it rather than trying to convince somebody for hours on a phone. I just shoot up the road to CompUSA.
(My experience with CompUSA warranty repair work is that once they understand the nature of the problem, they type up their own service request and send it to Sony. Sony has never questioned CompUSA with one of my returns, but Sony usually has phone questions for me when I call them. They seem to default to the "well this is drop damage" without seeing the unit)
Now, this will probably be the last PC I purchase from CompUSA as they seem to be shutting stores down pretty quickly. I'll probably purchase my next Vaio from a brick and mortar Sony Store if not online. (Online as a last resort. I am serious about wanting to take a problem PC to the store for repairs.) -
I got mine at circuit city. With the coupons and sale they had going on I got it for about $500 cheaper than it was listed on sony's website.
-
I got mine online from J&R.
Had the cheapest price and next day shipping for few dollars. -
I got mine (last October) at Costcentral.com
My experience with them was excellent, but resellerratings.com reports problems lately.

I got mine at Sonystyle.com. -
Office Depot back when they used to have good clearance deals on Vaios
-
bought at staples on clearance. best deal i found
-
Fry's. Paid only $1800 for an SZ330PB back in September because they made a mistake in an advertisement.
-
I bought my sz360p/c last october from Mwave.com(doesn't charge tax) for 2100 shipped. Arrived the next day with regular shipping. The only downside was that I had to fax them a copy of my driver license before they shipped.
this was the best price I would find from a semi-respectable site. Used AMEX for safety purposes. Then I bought a 3 year accidental warranty from neweg.com for $230 instead of the regular $299.
Been very happy thus far... -
sonystyle. called them up and got a few hundred bucks off my sz330 because i told them office depot was having a sale on theirs.
where did you buy your sony laptop?
