i'm in the market for a VAIO CA or VAIO SA, but while coupons for HP and Dells are all over the place, i'm having difficult time find any kind of discount and coupons for Sony laptops. i know Sony is different in terms of giving out discounts but i just can't pull the trigger knowing i'll be paying full price.
-
The best you can hope for is getting 5-10% off when you place the order with Sony directly...
-
i've configured numerous times on sonystyle.com and didn't price ever changes even after added the item in the shopping cart. where do you expect to see those 5-10% discount? at the checkout page?
-
If you are a student, you can receive a 10% discount with the purchase of a extended service plan/warranty. Alternatively, you can call them up and place your order over the phone and ask for a 5% discount, you just have to whine a little bit.
Sometimes Sony with have deals on their main page as well, such as $100 off of the sheet battery for the SA/SB.
Hope that helps.

To get the discount you have to call Sony up on the phone or talk to them through there virtual chat. From what most people say they are pretty lenient in offering discounts. You can also find coupons, along with cash back at Mr Rebates. If you live in the U.S. that works, not sure if it works in other countries. You have to sign up with Mr Rebates then click on the link to sony style website and order through that session to get the cash back. I think for Sony it is 3% cash back. You can't order through the phone to get the cash back. Just google Mr Rebates.

I just configured and ordered a new SA laptop on sonystyle through the "education store" link on the front page and it gave me 5% off instantly, no warranty required. And for some reason I even got a FREE (not half off like the front page says) sheet battery as well.
-

Nice!
Yeah, it's lame I can't configure it. They only advertise Vaio SB in our country (while France, Netherlands & UK already have SA) and the most powerful Vaio SB is the one without BluRay Drive and with ATI Radeon 6470 with 512MB.
See here: S Serie : VAIO notebooks en desktop PC's : Sony
but yeah, anyway, I'll wait for the SA here in Belgium
and let's hope the Student Discount is still valid by then!
-
That's a heck of a deal, it seems they brought back the sheet battery promotion right after I received my SA. I would be happier for you though if you had upgraded you own ram and saved $160.
-
i dont know why but when i took that off the sheet battery at $0 wasnt working. how could i save $160? it was $180 for the extra ram youre telling me I can get the same 4 GB for $20 since 4 of it is built in? i saw them for about $140 shipped online, unless I'm missing something -
i've chatted with them online and the only thing they're giving out is the student discount which i'm not qualify.
-
All you need to do is put in a school and you'll receive the discount. I did. Got savings of 5% and a free battery

Yeah... 8gb of RAM (2 dimms) goes for $38 as seen here: 8GB ADATA Premier Series (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory $38 AR with Free Shipping - Slickdeals.net
save the money and stick wtih 4gb... you can get 1 stick for $25 if you wait
As per the OP, yeah Sony doesn't have coupons just instant offs and sometimes price mistakes... and if you call in, the rep might give you some off. Just ask, there's no 10% off coupon, just what you can haggle over the phone (i love haggling over the phone anyways
)
-
Just to point something out, that's desktop RAM you linked. You need to grab RAM suitable for laptops, they're a different size. I upgraded my SA with an extra stick of 4gb RAM bought from Newegg for about $40.
-
Call them up over the phone and see what they can give you. Are you in the U.S.? Anyway usually you can haggle with them for 5% off. You can then say ok to that, then order it. After you order it, you can then ask for Customer care. I got 5% off of mine, then when i talked to Customer care I got an additional 3-4%, ended up getting almost $250 off.
-
What exactly did you say to Customer Care to get that extra discount?
-
I don't know if it would work for you, but you never know. As for my case i had originally bought a Vaio c series CTO, but for one reason or another I sent it back. After I talked with them in returning the C series, I received a call from Sony and ordered an F series with the promise of 10% discount. Unfortunately I had to wait until the C series returned and credited to my account, before I could put the order in for the new one. By that time the 10% was gone, as i didn't get it in writing and she forgot to put it in the notes. So I was only given a 5% discount. However after some haggling they put me in with Customer care who gave me the rest of the discount. Not completely 10%, more like 7-8%. Anyway they are pretty good in helping you out, if you haggle some and do it nicely. At least in my case they were. I don't see why they wouldn't do it for anybody that asked nicely, at least 5%. I guess it also depends on the deals they have at the time you buy. If you can't get anymore from the main phone people, just ask for customer care after the purchase.

I just visited the Sony Education Store website: https://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/s...=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1#promoPanelTabs
and saw the promotions for a free slice battery + 10% off for students. But I wasn't able to find out how to get the slice for free (it shows up as $75 in my cart) and when I spoke to a rep and asked how to apply the 10% discount, she simply told me that no such thing existed. Huh?
I am confused.
-
I ordered from the education store (i'm not a student, it didn't really seem to matter)
I custom ordered an SB. After I put it in the cart, the slice just showed up, the total cost didn't have the $75, and I got a free one, as the ad suggests. The education store also provided a 5% discount. -
I see now. Thanks! +rep.
Now I just need to figure out how to stack that with the 10% discount!
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Call in, that's the best way to get ANY deal IMHO (unless you're afraid of the rep
)
-
i followed the same link above and custom built a SA and didn't see any discount after added to the cart. is there a promo code for this i need to enter?
-
i called them up and was able to get 8% off of my custom built SA290X. they throw in a free noise cancellation headphone and gave me a good price on the sheet battery as well. i highly recommend calling in to place your order.
-
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
gratz that's good news
time to add your new laptop to your sig! -
still haven't received the order confirmation email yet. but the order is there on the Sony's site under the order number they gave me. i think they switched around with the discounts, they gave me the sheet battery for free but charged me on the headphone ($89 value) which i didn't want. so basically i paid $89 for the sheet battery and they throw in the headphone for free.
-
The outlet has a new coupon rolling for 15% off.
outletvaio15pc <--- Discount code.
Hope this helps.
