After abusing my VAIO's (VGN-s580) harddisk for a long time, it finally started giving me that "SMART" prophecy that a failure is imminent and the harddisk drive shall be replaced.

I'm ready to remove this old drive (and keep abusing it externally till it dies) and buy a new one but I'm not sure if any new '2.5" laptop hard drive' presented in Newegg would work with my VGN-s580. I want to buy the following one. Would it work? If not, which specifications should I look for?

    Brand: Seagate
    Series: Momentus 7200.2
    Model: ST9200420AS
    Interface: SATA 3.0Gb/s
    Capacity: 200GB
    Cache: 16MB
    Average Latency: 4.17ms
    RPM: 7200 RPM
    Form Factor 2.5"

your system would most likely be a EIDE or PATA interface. just check your system specifications before making the purchase.

I would go for the Hitachi Travelstar 7k200 200gb over Seagate.
