Hi, Ive ordered a sony vaio Y series:

    Sony VAIO Y11 V9E / VPCY21S1E/SI.CEK / Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz / 4GB / 320GB / 13.3 inch / Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit / Laptop / Notebook.

I was just wondering whether it would play blu ray discs if I buy an external blu ray player that plugs in via a usb. I was planning on buying an external cd drive incase I need one but will go for the blue ray option so I can watch films if it would work?

    Thanks.

My Sony TT has got an internal bluray drive and i've got a 1.6 SU9600 processor. Other TT owners with a SU9300 1.2 processor have no problem with bluray so you shouldn't either. Both laptops are using the same integrated card. 4GB of ram is recommended for bluray. It should also work over usb.

I don't know if this is the same for more powerful laptops but when playing a bluray movie my computer auto defaults to W7 basic. However, it does play it perfectly though.
