hi, anyone tried to install Windows 8 CP on the Z11?

everything seems to work fine - except one (really important) thing: the stamina/speed Switch only works afer a fresh Driver install - after reboot the Switch button doesn't react/work any more…

    Which drivers are you using?

With the ancient stock Sony drivers, the Speed/Stamina switch would work for me but occasionally I would end up with a black screen after the computer finished booting and I would have to go into standby mode (by default set to one press of the power button) and back to get the screen to work.

This was annoying me too much, so now I am back to using Windows 7.

i'm using the stockdrivers from sony... also i have some "flickering" problems and when i connect a second screen with HDMI the system crashes sometimes...

guess i'll restore win7 and use win8 only in vmware...

    Hi

I think we have to wait for Sony to release Windows 8 compatible drivers... Hopefully not until the final release :-/

Good luck with that. Sony doesn't care about their older models, they would tell you that your Vaio is not compatible with Win 8 after Windows 8 hits the RTM stage. This is what happened to my FZ, with Win 7.

Also forget about depending on Sony for a newer GPU driver. Because of Sony, I had learned much in modifying various hardware drivers.

Try disabling fast start in power options. That worked for me.

    Open Power options.
Click "Choose what the power button does".
Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable".
Uncheck "Turn on fast start (recommended)".
    Save changes.

The downside is that the much talked about lightning fast boot up of Windows 8 is not available.

I've installed Win 8 on my Z117 and uninstalled it after a while
since I see no benefits switching to Win 8 at all......

it forces you to use metro which is not really useful on non-tablet device.......

You can ignore the Metro UI rather easily. Windows key + D is a handy shortcut. Also, if you put a desktop app in the startup folder (even C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Taskmgr.exe /7 will do), the desktop appears as soon as the app loads.

The real benefits of Windows 8 are the fast start (if it works for you; doesn't work for me :( ) and Hyper-V which is really geeky stuff, but most useful.
