This is my second vaio, and I still hate how the overly sensitive touchpad makes my cursor skip all over and create havoc. Today in a split second the touchpad highlighted everything I had written in an email and deleted it...twice! Does anyone know how to dial down the touch pad sensitivity? I had to stick a Polkaholics sticker over my touchpast on my old vaio! (When I just typed the exclamation point it jumped to the second line. Ugh!)

I don't know which Z you own, but in general I find Synaptics software has to be uninstalled/re-installed every couple of weeks to calm down. Also, have you tried the latest ones from the Synaptics site? Finally, I assume you have already adjusted the sensitivity down and the palm rejection up in the Synaptics control panel. Beyond that, there is a program called Touch Freeze which is supposed to improve upon the touch rejection while you're typing.

I'd just install the latest synaptics drivers, set palm rejection up and sensitivity down, as lovelaptops said.

I find that sweat is often what jinxes the capacitive touchpads. If you experience erratic jumps or responses, wipe down your hands and the pad with a tissue or something it helps.

If all else fails, deactivating multitouch everything might help. Do you remember when you had to scroll with one finger down the side of the pad to scroll? ^^Your kids won't...
