The ssd of z2 can be replaced when it dies?
-
I'm asking this because in my country the notebook is so expensive. There is a promotion for this laptop and if ssd is replaceable, the notebook will last longer and I will save money for a new one in 6+ years.
-
You can replace it but not with a standard SSD you buy in the shops. It has a special connector and formfactor. But if you open up the unit, it's held in place by a single screw so easy to replace.
-
And where I can find those ssd with those special connector and formfactor?
-
If memory serves correct, the first Macbook Air had an unconventional ssd that was later replaceable by third party manufacturers. It just took some time before they were sold.
If this ssd form factor stays in sony's new high end laptops, chances would increase even more that replacements will eventually be sold. -
Z1 and Z2 is the same SSD?
-
If you want a computer with affordable replacement parts, you do NOT want a Z2.
-
I don't think that will necessarily be the case. Look how long the Z1 has been out and there's nothing off the shelf that you can replace those Raid0 drives with. You have to manually strip the casings and use Sony's connector. The only reason third party things came out for the Air is because 1, it's an Apple product, and 2, related to one, it's thus very popular and there's a market for that sort of thing. The same cannot be said for Vaios, let alone the most expensive one.
-
Hm, thats bad. Is it possible to replace SSD and put HDD? I want this notebook so bad but I'm concerned about the lifetime.
-
Dude, if you have financial concerns, you really don't want a Z2. No kidding.
-
Not possible to put an HDD in place of the SSD.
The price of a replacement SSD is expensive as you can only buy direct from Sony.
I really think it's the wrong question to ask if the SSD will last you 6+ years. It might, it might not. We can't predict the future. You just have to take a leap of faith that the SSD will work for that long but you also have to understand that it is a piece of equipment. And like all equipment, there's a risk of it breaking. If you're so worried about not having user replaceable drives, as Louche said, I'd be looking at a different computer. If you want the top of the line 13" and not necessarily worry about tomorrow then you should get the Z. -
^What he said.
