Hi, i'm experiencing some problems lately.

When i leave my laptop on for a couple of hours, the memory would just fill itself to a point where it'll give me an error message saying i ran out of memory. normally my diel (nothing open) usage would be around 1.2 gig.
Now its almost 2.2 and rising.. i have no idea why this is happening. I tried google but it would only give me some unclear explaination about some kind of 'memory leak or overflow'
I have no idea what that is or how to fix it.

As a gamer I want a computer with full potential, not 1-2 gig mem los due to some problem i cant find/fix

Can you guys help me find the cause?

Open task manager and click the process tab expand the window so you can see everything and take a screen shot for us.

Don't forget to click show all processes box.

How is your pagefile been set up? How is the disk space availability on the main partition?

    cheers ...

At this point in time if taskmanager cannot id which is the program that leaks memory, I will use Sysinternals.

And your pagefile? Have you left it alone from the start?

    cheers ...

what do you mean with pagefile?

and weinter, no program shows a memory use of more then 100 megs, and when i add up all the mem usage, i still dont come to a total of more then 2 gig, yet it says i ran out of memory...

    Pagefile = Virtual memory.

I take it that you left it alone.

    cheers ...

Where exactly do you see that you're out of memory, where do you see an indication of used RAM? If there's an error, what is the exact text?

As others have indicated, it could possibly be an infection of some kind or mismanaged virtual memory (like turning off or decreasing the pagefile size).

Without being able to see any more detail, such as the screenshot requested by ratchetnclank, I'd have to say that this almost certainly sounds like a malware infection. The best thing to do right now would be to disconnect the system from your network, restart it, and immediately start up an anti-virus scan that does a thorough scan of every file.
