With so many deciding differently, I decided to make a poll and see how many people... decide differently.
Great message sentence, huh?
Oh well, at least vote in my poll, will you![]()
I wish I was allowed to have more characters to put in the poll so I could make the poll funnier.

It depends what the software is. Anything from M$ I don't trust. lol
On the other hand I would almost immediately download anything from Mozilla.
Tim -
I pretty much always get the latest beta version. I tend to stay away from alpha though.
-
I agree with Tim. For most programs, I update immediately. Occasionally even trying out a beta or two. With new operating systems, I usually wait a few months.
-
I get the software the moment it is released. And when bugs do occur, i'll have something to occupy my time.
-
I always wait for the first service pack with microsoft. Most other software I will beta depending on how invasive the install.
-
i used to upgrade new version (even beta) immediately when they are realeshed and the result is reinstall windows
now i'm not interested in upgrading anymore. So my pc run stable -
Depends on the provider.
If it's Micro$oft it's better to wait. They sometimes make radical moves that almost kills user experience.
Then it depends, the beta might carry some features that I really need and the stable release doesn't have. -
Some things I don't like to update.. it seems like with the more recent thing then I'd rather not update. Like the recent messengers from M$ and pretty much all other IM's I'd rather use an older version. I'm mostly just to lazy to get the latest updates.
-
When I know the beta software is stable, I go with that. However, when it isn't (read, Vista) then I shy away from it.
-
I almost always get the latest version (and sometimes betas too, depending on new features vs stability tradeoff)
Exceptions are when the new product looks significantly worse than the old one for my needs. (Such as Vista) -
-
mmm...it depends. Usually for things such as operating systems and office applications, such as Windows and MS Office, I wait a bit. But for other programs, I usually upgrade right away. I guess it depends on whether or not the program is free. I tend to upgrade free programs right away, with some exceptions.
-
Really depends on the software, how critical it is that I have the latest vs how critical it is that it doesn't crash.
OS I almost never go for the latest and greatest simply because when brand new they have SOOOO many problems (which normally resolve) other stuff... depends on mission criticality -
Where's the "I upgrade when new versions appear to have functionality I need or want, but am not getting"? All of these poll options are time-based, which is a stupid way to go about upgrading. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
-
I would vote Pita's option if it was there.
I have a PC with Windows 2000 on it still. -
I have a strong feeling that this poll actually tend to target people who use Vista....(if you considered that an OS is actually a software
)
Well, actually i choose to wait for a while. But for Vista, since its been many years since the release of its predecessor than i think it will worth to try and take a shot. But i am not willing to try any betas. Just wait until its official release. I red many reviews in betas and RCs of Vista, give me enough confidence to jump it right away since its first officially launch to customer.
Honestly my experience with Vista have been smooth until now. Not like other Vista bashing here with their horrible experience. I might have been lucky, but as i always said, as long as you got the proper driver and get enough RAM, you wont find serious problem and can fully utilized and enjoy it. Vista is stable and fast enough to use. -
It's way too case-by-case for me to answer any one answer. But I chose the waiting for bugs to be gone one anyways. I plan on sticking with XP for a long time to come. Stuff like browsers, I grab the latest version immediately, usually because I'm hoping they fixed something. Then there's stuff like Winamp. 2.81
[Poll] Do you move to new versions of software immediately or do you wait a while?
