Using Windows Vista, though it happened with Windows XP before, too. Had to reinstall to bring it back.

The option to 'Edit with GIMP' when right-clicking an image has randomly disappeared. I've tried comparing the registries from two of my computers (one has the menu, one doesn't) with entries containing the phrase "Edit with GIMP," but they turned out to be the same. Anybody have any clues how to bring this back without reinstalling GIMP? Free methods appreciated.

I don't want to reinstall as I've made some heavy UI configurations I don't want to have to remake.

    Thanks all. :)

P.S. I know how to use the "open with..." dialog, but that keeps opening GIMP as a whole new process, so I have to wait for it to load each time. Opening with gimp-win-remote doesn't work either.

I have noticed that the 'Edit with GIMP' option only appear with files that do not open with Gimp. For example my jpegs/gif(that open with windows viewer) have that option but .xcf(that opens with Gimp) does not...so it may not be random.

Also, does 2.4.7 allow you drag images to an already opened gimp windows? I know 2.6 does but IDK about the previous editions...it might be a way to bypass the edit option.

If those "ways" dont check out then you will probably want to edit windows file context menu...I have only used the registry to take options away from the menu so I had to use a program for this. Quick Google search came up with FileMenu Tool( Cnet page) Its freeware... the GUI was a little buggy for me but worked out.

Install...open it up and uncheck everything like in the below pic(ignore the selcted 'edit with Gimp"...you will add it in later) unless you want one of those option when you right click.

To add 'Edit with Gimp' option, go to Edit-New command and then edit the properties of that new command(edit-properties once the new command is selected). Make sure the properties say:

    Before:

    After:

If that doesn't work or its not what you want, then there might be a way to use the registry to edit 'Open with' to make it open up in the same "instance" of that program(so no doubles of Gimp).

Hope that helps and Merry Christmas :)
