    1 Windows on 2 DELL laptops?

    Hey guys, just a quick question:

    Can I use the Windows XP cd from my previous DELL laptop to install it on my new DELL laptop? (dual-boot with vista that came with it)


    Is it legal and will it remain "genuine"?

    It'll probably work but it's illegal. You legally can't use the a Dell cd unless the Windows on it matches up with the sticker on the bottom.

    If I remember correctly, the version of Windows that came with your previous Dell laptop is tied to that hardware, meaning that you can't transfer the license from one computer to another. If you were to install the version of Windows XP from your old Dell laptop onto your new Dell laptop, then it would be illegal and no longer "genuine".
