Well, I gonna buy Windows on ebay. May be used one. So, I have a question. Let's say a guy installed a copy of windows on his home computer and sold the dvd to me on ebay and I installed it. Will MS catch it and deactivate the copies (I heard they can do smth like that with kill switch  )
I guess they can see if 2 computers with same license are updating simultaneously...

And ya, I know it's better to buy new software, but I bought some used games on ebay. it worked out fine and I saved some $$$.

Your situtation is the same as others that have bought Windows from eBay - chances are it will not activate. If it doesn't, you'll have to call Microsoft and activate over the phone. Plead your case - and if they don't activate it, demand a refund from the eBay seller.

I'm assuming that when you buy this "used" DVD, you're also buying the product key (i.e., the actual license to use the software) that originally came with that DVD when new, correct?

In that case, it probably won't activate, and you'll have to follow the procedure kegobeer described.

On the other hand, if you have your own separate (legal) product key, and intend to use that, then you may not have any problems using those "used" CD/DVDs, provided that the version of the CD/DVDs (retail/OEM) matches that of your product key (retail/OEM).

I dont know what Operationg System (OS) came with your laptop (if any) but a product key for that OS is normally on a sticker at the bottom of the laptop. If you bought the CD for that OS you can just use that code. Just a suggestion...

I have a spare copy of Vista Home Premium 32bit (legit, has COA) came with a computer I bought and parted out. Depending on what country you live in (shipping amount basically) I might be able to send you it.
